Tori Removal for Better Fitting Dentures
A torus (plural: tori) is simply an excess growth of bone in the mouth. A torus in the upper arch is referred to as torus palatinus, while a torus in the lower jaw is called a torus mandibularis. Tori are common, especially in older individuals, and usually cause limited problems.
However, a torus can become an issue if it interferes with the fit of dentures. By having a torus reduced, the patient can enjoy a more comfortable and secure fit with their dentures. A better fit will allow the patient to enjoy a wider range of foods and prevent the embarrassment of denture slippage.
